Rogue Antispyware
Progams
Over the last couple of years, spyware has evolved rather
rapidly and has now become the number one threat posed to
computers and computer users. But aside from the that,
there is a new breed of dangerous spyware that uses aggressive
advertising and fake security popups and scans in order to
convince you that your computer is infested with spyware and
con you into spending money on bogus security software.
Rogue Antispyware programs are now the most active and most
successful methods for cyber hackers to not only scam people
out of money by purchsing fake software, but also to steal an
unsuspecting user's identity. They work like this:
1. Agressive Advertising
Either through websites that you may visit or directly
showing up on your computer itself, these new programs will
bombard your computer with popups claiming that you have a
spyware infection and need immediate protection.
2. Silent Installation
when you click on the popup presented, and in some cases
even if you don't, the rogue program will immediately begin to
install itself in the background without your consent or
knowledge.
3. Fake Scans
Once installed, the rogue program will be configured to
startup each time you boot your computer and start Windows and
will then present you with what looks to be a legitimate
spyware scan screen, but in reality the entire thing is a hoax
and all the resulting infections that the program claims to
find through the scan are either fake files or legitimate
Windows files.
4. Purchase and Continuance
Should you fall for the scam and go ahead and purchase the
full version of the rogue program, the only thing that will end
up happening is that your computer will now be exposed to even
more spyware as these full versions now go out and almost
continually download and install even more spyware without your
knowledge or consent up until the point at which our computer
ceases to function almost entirely.
Larger Threat
In addition to the problems caused to your computer by these
rogue programs, they pose a much larger threat in that they
have the ability to log keystrokes, browing habits,
screenshots, etc. and then send that information off to a
remote server so that a hacker on the back end can then use
that data to gain access to bank accounts, credit cards, etc.
and ultimately steal your identity.
If you suspect you are infected with a Rogue Antispyare
Program, you must immediately take action to remove the
infection before your personal information and financial well
being are compromised.
Even if you don't suspect you are infected, you should take
steps to protect yourself and ensure that your personal
information and financial well being remain secure by
downloading and installing a reputable and highly effective
antispyware software that includes real time protection.
Rogue Antispyware progams need to be taken seriously and
because of this, legitimate antispyware software is no longer a
luxury but has become an absolute necessity.
